Letter to the Editor: RCSD Calendar Changes

2 years ago     1060 Views     Leave your thoughts

It seems like the Ramapo Central School Board is looking to amend the district calendar for next year. As long as they're reopening the process, I'd like to make a suggestion: go to a PTO model, and remove the various religious holidays. PTO means Personal Time Off, which many workplaces have moved to instead of the traditional vacation weeks and sick days. With PTO in our district, you as a parent would decide what days are appropriate for your children to miss. There's been uproar in some areas lately over the adoption of new holidays…

Letter to the Editor: 6 Month Moratorium on Anellotech Permits

2 years ago     1139 Views     Leave your thoughts

Over the past few weeks there has been much discussion with regard to Anellotech opening a facility on the Pfizer campus. While said discussion has its controversy, it will in fact bring tax revenue into our town coffer. With that said, our community must be reminded that this is not the only thought we must focus on! Anellotech cannot provide us with any true data regarding emissions from their facility once in operation.  We have no way of honestly knowing the dangers of their Smokestack" ! They claim it…

An Open Letter to Legislator Jay Hood: Legislator Hood – Please Play Nice!

2 years ago     1111 Views     Leave your thoughts

Legislator Hood: I have read your article in the Ramapo Times from January 30th 2015 and was shocked by the title ‘Hood Condemns Day’s Unlawful ‘Power Grab’. I would be dismayed to find out that this wording was selected or even approved by you. Whereas you have the right to disagree with County Executive’s actions I expect everyone to work together as professionals to fix the mess that has been created. In your first couple of paragraphs you make certain unsubstantiated claims, one being that the letter to the Towns concerning charge-backs was sent without the knowledge or approval of…

Letter to The Editor – “Orangetown As Easy Prey”

2 years ago     661 Views     Leave your thoughts

Dear Editor: Living in Rockland County near two decades, I learned that those who would inflict environmental harm, seek out perceived weakest communities for that purpose. Enter, Anellotech and its proposed hazardous waste facility extension at the Pfizer Pearl River campus. It's happened before. FAA and the airlines sought a massive flight-path over Rockland. We stopped them. United Water sought to make us drink desalinated water from the Hudson. We stopped them. In each case, at least temporarily. Both conflicts occurred because would-be polluters targeted what they thought was the weakest of the local communities to plow through. Rockland is…

Letter to the Editor: Wesley Hills: Is There a Vote Tomorrow? Board of Elections: Talk the Polling Station Into Letting You Vote

2 years ago     1940 Views     Leave your thoughts

by Carrie Dweck Just called Village of Wesley Hills to find out where I vote tomorrow, as we just moved to a new home and I have not received my new polling location. The person who answered the phone had NO IDEA THERE IS A VOTE tomorrow. How is this even possible? Then she sent me to the Board of Elections in New City wherein I was advised that I can try and talk the pollsters into allowing me to vote there if I can explain my situation. SO, we are being advised to try and talk pollsters into letting…

Orthodox Ramapo Resident: Boss is Tweed Alive and Well and Living in Ramapo

2 years ago     2049 Views     Leave your thoughts

Name witheld by request This is the first of three articles by an orthodox resident of the Town of Ramapo. You thought Boss Tweed died over 125 years ago. Think again. He has been reincarnated as Boss St. Lawrence in the Town of Ramapo. And Ramapo Town Hall is essentially Tammany Hall redoux. Tammany Hall was the archetype of corrupt political machines that flourished in many American cities in the late 1800s and early 1900s. By far the most notorious figure to be associated with Tammany Hall was William Tweed, whose political power made him known as “Boss” Tweed. The…

Letter to the Editor: Anger and Paranoia at Ramapo Town Hall

2 years ago     1361 Views     Leave your thoughts

by Charles Falciglia, Suffern This article is in response to the bizarre disingenuous recent press release issued by Ramapo Democratic Chairwoman, Mona Montal, regarding the vote on the Ward System referendum, which will take place on Tuesday, September 30th, 2014. The press release is intellectually dishonest and generally offensive. And that’s its positive message. It is the type of platitude laced angry diatribe that the public has grown weary of, right out of the Chris St. Lawrence playbook, to wit, the section titled utter contempt and disdain for the public. A shameless attempt to sequester facts, designed to intellectually swindle…
