Jessica Schlageter of Nanuet is a strong advocate for United Hospice of Rockland and is forming a team this year at the UHR Walk to Remember. Jessica’s family also walked last year and raised over $3,000 for UHR. Jessica said “Walking with family and friends at the UHR Walk to Remember is very comforting since we all talk about the wonderful memories we shared with the loved ones we lost. It also reinforces our commitment of being a strong family unit that was instilled by our grandparents.”  Both of Jessica’s grandmother’s had received hospice care at home and it was a very positive experience for her family in regard to the care her grandmother’s received, as well as her family receiving education on what to expect and the services available. Her family took advantage of many of the hospice services; which included massage therapy, nurses available 24/7, help with medical supplies, spiritual care and bereavement counseling.

Jessica’s cousin’s grandmother also received hospice care at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence and was very impressed with the wonderful care she received, starting with the chef preparing delicious meals to the compassionate nurses. Jessica is looking forward to the Walk to Remember on April 19th and hopes that even more community members will join her family this year.
