The Helen Hayes Hospital Adapted Sports and Recreation Program Announces 2015 Dates

The Helen Hayes Hospital Adapted Sports and Recreation Program has announced its 2015 programming dates. Events are open to individuals of all abilities and adaptive equipment will be provided when needed. From handcycling and waterskiing to yoga and gardening, the 2015 adapted sports and recreation calendar boasts activities for people of all abilities and interests:

Yoga:     Four-six weeks, every Wednesday beginning January 7th

Location: Helen Hayes Hospital

Adaptive Rock Climbing: Thursday January 15th 5:30pm-8pm, March 21st 9am-1pm, October 17th 9am-1pm

Location: Valhalla, NY

Helen Hayes Hospital Adapted Sports Expo:      Saturday, April 11th, 11:00 am – 4pm

Location: Helen Hayes Hospital

GolfAbility: Driving range: May 4th, 11th, 18th, June 1st, 8th; Outing: June 15th, 22nd, 29th

Location: Helen Hayes Hospital

Sailing: Pre-Instruction: Thursday, May 7th; Sailing date: Friday, May 15th

Location: Nyack, NY

Gardening: Saturday, May 30th

Location: Helen Hayes Hospital

Softball: Wednesday, June 10th, September 9th

Location: Helen Hayes Hospital

Handcycling: June 25th, July 21st, August 10th, August 24th

Location: Rockland Lake State Park, Congers, NY

Fishing: Saturday, June 27th

Location: Lake Hessian, Bear Mountain

Kayaking: July 7th (July 9th rain date), August 4th (August 6th rain date)

Pre-evaluation in pool needed

Location: Stony Point, NY

Waterskiing: July 28th & August 20th

Location: Sandy Hook, CT *transportation available

Glider Plane: Friday, September 18th

Location: Blairstown, NJ

Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Airsoft, Adaptive Archery & Fly Fishing – Dates TBA

The Helen Hayes Hospital Adapted Sports & Recreation Program is dedicated to enabling individuals of all abilities to pursue competitive and recreational sports and activities. Such activities speed the recovery process, improve and maintain health and conditioning and foster socialization and camaraderie. The Program is a certified chapter of Disabled Sports USA and has been designated as an elite Paralympic Sports Club by the U.S. Paralympics.
