Blauvelt Leo Club at Tappan Zee High School Recognized for Service

On June 8th, at the annual VCB (Visions Center on Blindness)Day and Open House, the Blauvelt Lions Leo Club at TZ High School along with adviser Tricia Castelli,  were presented with the John E. Twohie Volunteer of the Year Award.  The Leos and adviser Tricia Castelli,  have been volunteering at VCB’s spring and fall cleanups  for the past 7 years, helping to get the camp ready for its visually impaired guests every summer, as well as cleaning before closing the facilities in the fall.

On June 13th, the Leos were also recognized with a Certificate of Achievement presented  by the  Rockland County Legislature for Service Rendered to the County of Rockland.  The over 200 members of the Leo Club are involved in many community service projects, including fundraisers for charity events such as the annual Blauvelt Lions Applefest held in Piermont in the fall, community cleanups, feeding the homeless both in Rockland through Safe Haven and Soup Angels, as well as in  New York City through Midnight Run.
