SUFFERN– The inhabitants of a 16-unit Stewart Circle apartment building were left homeless Tuesday evening when fire compelled authorities to cut utility service to the structure.
There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, which was first reported at 107 Stewart Circle about 5:50 p.m.
The fire were placed under control in about 25 minutes, however battling the blaze required the assistance of 75 firefighters from the Suffern, Tallman, Hillcrest, Monsey and Mahwah, N.J. volunteer fire departments. Stark stated the volunteers were also utilized as required.
Suffern police K-9 Officer Lou Venturini and Sgt. Dave Tarantino discovered heavy smoke inside the structure and evacuated everyone safely.
Displaced residents were sheltered at a nearby location where the Suffern Fire Department’s Ladies Auxiliary was supplying food.
The Rockland County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Investigations was examining the scene last night.
