On Friday March 7th , Ms. Sara Garvey was interviewed by Brian Curtis and Richard Black , students in Ms. Sorensen’s Challenge Lab class who are creating a documentary film for the National History Day contest.  The theme of this year’s contest is “Rights and Responsibility in History”.  Curtis and Black are creating a documentary about Saudi Arabian women’s rights.  Ms. Garvey’s family has lived in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East for several years.

She told the students the inside story of what it is like to be a woman in this country and explained that the plight of the Saudi woman is not truly understood in the West.  She believes that the rights of women can only be changed through “a complete education reform”-a reform where the roles of both men and women are examined and liberalized.  The students  will use the interview as a primary source for their documentary film.
